Physicochemical property

  • 1.Appearance: white powder, odorless and tasteless.

  • 2.Granularity: the 100 mesh pass rate is greater than 98.5%; The 80 mesh pass rate was more than 100%.

  • 3.Carbonization temperature: 280-300℃.

  • 4.Apparent density: 0.25-0.70g (usually about 0.5g), specific gravity: 1.26-1.31.

  • 5.Color changing temperature: 190-200℃.

  • 6.Surface tension: 20% aqueous solution is 42-56dyn/cm.

  • 7.Solubility: soluble in water and some organic solvents, such as appropriate proportion of ethanol/water, propanol/water, dichloroethane, etc. Water solution has surface activity, high transparency and stable performance. Different specifications of the product gel temperature is different, this is the HPMC thermal gel properties. The solubility varies with the viscosity. The lower the viscosity, the greater the solubility. The performance of HPMC of different specifications varies to some extent.

  • 8.With the decrease of methoxide content, the gel point increased, the water solubility decreased, and the surface activity decreased.

  • 9.HPMC also has thickening ability, salt exclusion, low ash content, PH stability, water retention, dimensional stability, excellent film formation and extensive enzyme resistance, dispersion and bonding.

Low viscosity hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose in special industry uses

  • 1.Coating industry: this product has excellent storage stability, maintains uniform viscosity, makes pigments disperse evenly, and is basically not affected by PH value (applicable PH=3–11).

  • 2.Synthetic resin: in the production of synthetic resins, such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC), polyvinylidene chloride and other copolymers, suspension polymerization is the most commonly used and must stabilize hydrophobic monomers suspended in water. As a water-soluble polymer, hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), the most representative of cellulose ether series products, has excellent surface activity, and ACTS as a colloidal protective agent, which can effectively prevent polymeric particles from agglomerating. Furthermore, although HPMC is a water-soluble polymer, it is also slightly soluble in hydrophobic monomers, and increases the porosity of monomers in the production of polymerized particles, which provides the polymer with a good ability to remove residual monomers and improve the absorption of plasticizers.

  • 3.Ceramics:
    (1) Hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC) is used as the binder for molding fine ceramic products. HPMC solution with higher concentration can be adsorbed on the surface of ceramic particles, which can reduce the friction between particles and enhance their lubricity, so that the molded products have the required surface finish and dimensional stability.
    (2) Sintered ceramic products with excellent electrical properties can be obtained due to the low ash content of HPMC.
    (3) Adding this product into the new honeycomb ceramics can give the billet crystal lubricity, water retention, increase strength, reduce friction coefficient, and improve the lubricity of extrusion ceramic products.

  • 4.Special mortarHPMC is added into the self-leveling mortar. After pouring, the water retention of the surface surface will be controlled. The addition of HPMC also provides viscosity, which can be used as an anti-precipitation agent to enhance fluidity and pumping ability, and improve the efficiency of paving.

  • 5.As herbicide and insecticide adhesive.

  • 6.As a gelatinizing agent and thickening agent in the leather auxiliary.

  • 7.As the adhesive for color pens and pencil lead.

  • 8.As a thickener for printing ink.

  • 9.As a concentrated methyl silicon solution stabilizer.

  • 10.Used in textile coatings.
