Sodium hypophosphate is a white, tasteless, non-toxic, water-soluble crystal powder. Its chemical formula is Na2HPO4, which can be used in the manufacture of fertilizers, cleaning agents, preservatives and food additives, and is also one of the common control agents in polycarboxylic acid water reducing agents.

The role of sodium hypophosphate in polycarboxylic acid superplasticizer

  1. Adhesive

Sodium hypophosphate has bonding effect. When added to polycarboxylic acid superplasticizer, it can increase the adhesion and cohesion between concrete particles and improve the stability and strength of concrete.

  1. Cement adhesive

Sodium hypophosphate can increase the contact area between the carboxyl group contained in polycarboxylic acid superplasticizer and cement particles, increase the adhesion and cohesion of cement and concrete particles, promote the formation of cement adhesive and improve the strength of concrete.

  1. Retarding agent

The addition of sodium hypophosphate in polycarboxylic acid superplasticizer can release phosphate ions slowly, forming ion concentration gradient in the surrounding environment, thus affecting the chemical reaction rate on the surface of cement and concrete particles, delaying the setting time of concrete, and making concrete have better processability and ductility.

  1. Dispersant

Sodium hypophosphate can also be added as a dispersant to polycarboxylic acid superplasticizer, which can effectively disperse the particles in concrete during construction, increase the fluidity and water reduction of concrete, and reduce the shrinkage and cracking and leakage of concrete while improving the performance of concrete.
